Although most people think this quote belongs to Buddha, it’s actually from Jack Kornfield’s book “Buddha’s Little Instruction Book”.

Curious fact: In the movie “Joe Versus The Volcano” (1990), written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, Patricia (Meg Ryan) says something quite similar:

“My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement”.

Could it be that Jack, four years after the movie was released, wrote his quote based on this?

Just so you know: John Patrick Shanley, is also the author of Moonstruck (1987) and Alive (1993)
